OPTIONAL COURSES

By request of the Memorial Center Perm-36, the Perm State Technical University Department of Culture Studies has developed an optional course Opposition to non-freedom in the USSR (1945-1991).

The course covers the following 5 topics:

1. “The growth of democratic spirits in the Soviet society, and persecution of dissenters (1945-53)” (pdf, 4898 Kb),
2. “The people of the 60s:  the search of freedom” (pdf, 5180 Kb),
3. “Remedial movement and dissidence:  1960-80s” (pdf, 5083 Kb),
4. “Perestroika in the USSR: the struggle of democratic and conservative tendencies in the society: 1987-91”  (pdf, 4846 Kb),
5. “The revival of multi-party system, 1988-91.  From societies and clubs to multi-party system and destruction of socialistic state” (pdf, 6187 Kb).

The course is 10 school periods long.  Some topics and training materials of the course can be used while studying the general course of the History of Russia. 

Each topic contains didactic materials for students and methodic instructions for History teachers.  Didactic materials consist of the following parts:  theses to the topic, extracts of documents and questions to them (most of the documents concern Prikamiye history), graphic materials, biographies, history terms, creative research tasks and discussion topics.  Methodic recommendations for teachers contain the texts of lectures, including the description of all the mentioned characters and terms, references, and drafts of lessons.

The didactic materials are developed and designed in compliance with the museum exhibitions creation principles, they make up a booklet which can be handed out during the class.     

Today the Perm State University Department of Contemporary History and the Center Perm-36 are developing another optional course:  Modernization of the USSR economy (1929-41).
